Background

1956  Joe Satriani is born in Long island, New York.

1970  He decides to start playing guitar on December 18, the day Jimmy Hendrix's dies.  Later he forms a band Tarsus.

1975  Joe starts studying music with jazz pianist Lennei Tristano.

1976  Tours cross-country with dance band justice.

1977  Satriani moves to Berkeley, California.

1980  He forms power-pop trio the Squares and continues to teach to a few students.

1983  Joe records the self-produced EP Joe Satriani.

1985  Records the material for his first album Not Of  This Earth, and joins stateside rock'n'roll Greg Khin on Khin's love and rock and roll album and tour.

1986  Relativity release Not Of This Earth.

1987  Satriani records Surfing With The Alien, which hits gold record status the following year despite being an instrumental guitar album.

1989  Joe wins "Best guitar Record of 1989" in guitar player magazine reader's poll and tours Japan as lead guitar in Mick Jagger's band.

1990  Satriani is voted best overall guitarist in guitar player reader's poll and releases his fourth album Flying In A Blue Dream, on Relativity records.

1994  He tours for Deep Purple, filling in for departed Ritchie Blackmore.

1995  Satriani enters the guitar players magazine's "Gallery Of Greats."

1996  In October, 1996 the G3 Tour starring Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Eric Johnson. Each played a full set, and then all three performed together.  Other guest to play G3, Kenny Wayne Sheperd, Robert Frip, Adrian Legg.

1997  Epic Records release G3 on Video.

1999  "Surfing With The Alien" is remastered.

2000  Joe records live album, and DVD at the Fillmore Auditorium S/F.

2000 "Submarine" Greg Bissonette CD, Joe plays on the track Lum Lum.

2001  Joins Spinal Tap on stage 10th June, (Break like the Wind and a jamming session) at the Warfield in San Francisco.

2001  Live in San Francisco released on CD & DVD.

2001 G3 2001 teamed Joe Satriani and Steve Vai up with Dream Theater's John Petrucci,

2002 Joe releases new CD Strange Beautiful Music, followed by Strange Beautiful Tour.

2002 Joe won the award for "Outstanding Guitarist" at the California Music Awards held at the Henry J. Kaiser in Oakland, CA. 

2002 Joe was hanging out with Dio, The Scorpions and Deep Purple in Reno at the end of the night the Purple guys invited Joe onstage for a few songs...They jammed on Hush, Highway Star and Smoke on the Water...Joe had to play one of Steve Morse's guitars. 

2002 Strange Beautiful Tour dates. The European shows in July U.S. dates were co-headlining dates with Dream Theater.

2003 Joe has been nominated for a Grammy Best Rock Instrumental Performance "Starry Night"

2003 Joe awarded the Governors Award "San Francisco".

2003 Joe has licensed Starry Night as a ring tone.

2003 Joe Satriani and Steve Vai teaming up with Yngwie Malmsteen for a G3.  Shows begin in October 2003 and will cover most of the U.S.

2003 New CD The Electric Joe Satriani Anthology and DVD Satch Tapes released.

2004 New releases "Rockin' In The Free World" 2-CD set and the "Live In Denver" DVD.

2004 Joe joins Buddy Guy, Paul Rodgers, Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, Jerry Cantrell and more for the Jimi Hendrix Tribute at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco.

2004 New solo CD release "Is There Love In Space?".

2004 European G3 summer tour Joe along with, Steve Vai and Robert Fripp. 

2005 Joe attends Les Paul's 90th birthday party at Carnegie Hall, NYC. 

2005 Peavey JSX head won Amp of the Year at this year's NAMM show.

2005 The new released JS Chrome guitar. It's a limited edition specially
plated wood JS1000, with an added phase switch.

2005 Joe on tour of Australia and New Zealand in March, the West Coast of the USA in April.

2005 A special G3 engagement in Japan with Steve Vai and John Petrucci.

2005 G3: Live In Tokyo - Oct 25 release it features Joe with Steve Vai, and John Petrucci and is available as a DVD or a double-disc CD.

2005 Joe has wrote and recorded 42 original pieces of soundtrack music for the electronic artists' game NASCAR 06. There are both full songs and also shorter background loops.

2006 CD release Super Colossal release date mar 14, 2006.

2006 Joe Satriani Super Colossal US Tour with very special guest Eric Johnson.

2006 Super Colossal European Tour All UK dates have Johnny A supporting also Adrian Legg opening.

2006 Joe's launch new line with Planet Waves of guitar straps and picks.

2006 Satriani LIVE! worldwide release date Oct 31, 2006 a double-live DVD & CD, recorded live at the Grove in Anaheim, CA May 3 2006.

2006 Joe attends,Les Paul's 90th Birthday Party featuring Merle Haggard, Buddy Guy, Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, Neal Schon, Edgar Winter,Joe Perry, Slash, Switchfoot, Shayna Steele, Steve Lukather, Kenny Aronoff, Vinnie Colaiuta, Abe Laboriel Sr., Hubert Sumlin, Twisted Sister, Billy Gibbons plus Special Guests.

2007 G3 tour with Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert.

2007 Joe at a number of  summer festivals.  Worldwide.

2007 The 20th anniversary release of the groundbreaking album Surfing with the Alien. this new expanded edition will include the newly remastered album and a previously never-before-seen live show filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1988. It will also feature new liner notes written by Joe and special deluxe packaging featuring photos, notes and other memorabilia from Joe's personal archive.
